Whilst it may seem like just yet another hassle for beleaguered foreigners wanting to enter the country, there is good reason for the government to implement this requirement. Although this could be seen as another opportunity to make some easy profits for the insurers, the policies are quite reasonably priced, depending on a few factors let’s take a closer look. Luckily, a consortium of insurance providers in Thailand offers COVID-19 insurance for foreigners planning to visit Thailand which will be accepted by immigration, and these policies can be purchased easily online. Thai immigration officials are notoriously fastidious when it comes to paperwork, and will only accept policies from certain providers. This health insurance is another level of security to make sure that the traveler can cover all costs in case they are diagnosed with or die from COVID-19 during their stay in the kingdom. In addition to all the requirements, the traveler needs to obtain a Thailand Pass and a valid visa. Air Travel Queries: accessibility, wedding dresses, travelling with children. With Thailand very slowly reopening to visitors, one of the latest requirements for visitors is the mandatory COVID-19 insurance plan for foreigners that covers the traveler for a minimum of $10,000 (the Thai policies generally cover 350 thousand Thai baht).Baggage Rules for Multi-Carrier Flights.Airline, Airport, and Travel Abbreviations. How do I effectively communicate with an airline?.Flights delays and cancellations resources.TIPS - How to survive being stuck at an airport.TIPS - Being Prepared for Cancellations and Long Delays.TIPS - How to prepare for Long Haul Flights.Beware of cheap business class tickets (sold by 3rd parties). All you need to know about OPEN JAW tickets.Risks of "connecting" between flights on separate tickets.Skipping Flights on one ticket - Why You Can't.Buy now or later? And those policies were available online before Thailand opened Suvarnabhumi to transit.īut ultimately the fact that Thai Airways told you that checking the documents is part of check in, should have nipped the query in the bug. The fact that Australian insurance providers didn't have policies available is irrelevant as Thai insurance providers have been selling policies that qualify under Thai rules to travelers from any country. And have witnessed a passenger being denied boarding, wasn't privy to the conversation so not sure exactly why, but airlines do deny boarding. I have not transited yet, but have flown into Thailand four times during the pandemic and every passenger has had to show all their documents. But I suppose you can try and be the first. So the chances of someone being denied and then posting on social media is rather limited. Just follow the rules and receiving should be smooth sailing.Īs I mentioned in my post, very few people are actually transiting through Bangkok these days, as you are limited to a single ticket, along with the insurance and PCR test requirements. So you know it's a requirement to have this insurance to transit in Thailand, the airline has also told you this, but your still confused if you actually need this insurance? "It really seems very questionable if this is actually enforced or an airline covering their liability with boilerplate response." "I also can’t find anyone complaining about being denied boarding."Ĭould be because not many ppl have transited of late, or that most ppl are aware of the fact they need the Covid insurance so don't complain about it You do not need to get an Aust policy for the Covid Coverage, I went thru a Thai company which covered me for the required Covid amount, and then got my usual travel insurance for everything else. "I don’t want to be a pain but that requirement was set in May 2021 and up until recently hardly any insurance in Australia was covering Covid related issues." I can't see why it would be any different for someone that even though they may only be transiting, will still require the same Covid coverage. I have not transited in BKK, but I did fly to Thailand, and my insurance documents (and everything else) were very thoroughly checked and then double checked when I checked in for my flight. "Could I just quickly ask if that is first hand experience you had or quoting the stipulated requirements?"
